Marketing Exercise: Become your Ideal Customer/Client

Marketing Exercise: Become your Ideal Customer/Client

Hi this is Kelsie, ActionCOACH BCG’s marketing manager, and today I want to give you an exercise to help you find your target market.

First figure out who your ideal customer is.

    1. Male or Female
    2. Age
    3. Ethnicity
    4. Financial situation
    5. Marital status
    6. How long they have owned their current business
    7. Previous work experience?
    8. Children
    9. Religion
    10. Lifestyle (Social? Hobbies? Activities? Networks?)
    11. Financial situation
    12. Etc.

Once you have a basic outline written about your customer, create a full biography, be as specific as possible.

EX: Hi my name is Adolfo and I own a painting business in which I started 7 years ago. I am 48 years old and was born in Argentina; I came to America in 2001. I have a wife, a 13 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. I enjoy playing soccer and live around my children’s activities. I love being involved with my family and use to coach my son’s soccer team; however, the time consumption of owning as business has kept me from doing some of the things I love….(continue)

After completing your biography, read it aloud to your marketing team. Pinpoint what is important to your ideal client, how you can reach them, what circles they run in and how to create an emotional connection with that client. You may see this as a silly and time consuming activity, but each marketing campaign should be well thought out and what better way to know your ideal client then to become them.

From here prepare your plan/ad.  If you choose copy ad make sure it has these aspects.

    • Headline: Does it interrupt your prospect and emotionally appeal to their needs?
    • Body: Does it standout and differentiate you from the competition?
    • Offer/Guarantee: Is this offer something only you can do and do it repeatedly? Is it something your target wants? Is there something you can guarantee?
    • Call To Action: Does the customer know what the “next step” is? This should be prominent and the last thing they see.
    • Pictures: These can be very powerful and should take up to

Most importantly, have fun!

Kelsie
